Hi all

What's the recommended way of doing this, currently they have around 5 mailboxes, are mailbox storages at the moment hosted on tso host are creeping up a bit

Their mail clients I have set to store mail on servers, but it only keeps the inbox and sent items, so when they folders in outlooks it doesn't keep them on two servers

For now iv got a monthly PST backup programme which backs up to an in house server.

If I setup office 365 can we do PST backups essentially taking a snaphot of what they have and migrate it over? And the new emails just come in to the new mailbox?

Their website is hosted with tsohost, and email, ideally I would prefer them on office 365 , so it stores all their folders in the cloud,.

What's the best method to tackle this? He may even just say archive emails before x date, although Im not sure yet

The PST upload will take forever if they are large files, the upload rate used to be around 400Mb an hour, not sure if that has changed as it was a while ago when I worked at MS in the O365 team.

There are migration options but not many for POP without 3rd party tools, can you enable IMAP on the current mail server? if you can there is a good migration process for this:

Cool will give it read over, they are fairly large mailboxes, so would have to start it on a Friday over the weekend by the sounds, I would have to do it from a location with good upload

Can you upload the PST file then swing over MX record?

Will have more of a read in to it

Well since it's POP it will already be a PST File! How big is big?

If I were you (assuming they are using Outlook 2007 or above) I would do the following:
Create and setup everything for 365 to the point all you need to do is change MX records.

Create a separate Outlook profile for office 365 and Import the POP3 PST over the weekend.
OR
Add the office365 Profile to the current Profile and slowly drag and drop emails through the week or make a copy of the PST and import that.

Once your ready move the MX's and import any additional emails by either dragging them or Importing the PST again (no duplicates).
I would also check that thread visibleman linked, especially the auto-complete stuff as it can be a real pain!

The storage used on the tsohost mail servers are around 3gig each, there are 4-5 accounts if I remember correctly, but it only stores the inbox and sent items.

On the actual workstations themselves the PST files are actually around 7-8gb per machine.

Either of the option would work fine, the second one and be done slowly in working hours or if you want it all done it one go use the first option.

It's all up to to you and which would be best for the users, if you need any more info or help I can give you a hand.
