I'm considering migrating from Nildram (Tiscali) to o2 LLU. o2's site suggests I can get up to 16mbps, i'm currently syncing at 6.5mbps with Nildram.

What realistic speeds can I expect on LLU based on these stats?

Also, do you think its possible to downgrade to dial-up so I can keep my email and webspace with Nildram, but then migrate to o2?

Plug your line stats into this estimator (taken from the broadband sticky) to get an idea of what speeds to expect with ADSL2+. TalkTalk (who you're actually with) also do ADSL2+ via their unbundled exchanges, but if you've got the option of jumping ship to someone decent like O2/Be then go for it.

From the estimator:
Your ADSL2+ speeds are likely to be in the range 18000Kbps to 20000Kbps.

From Talktalk postcode checker:
Your broadband speed is estimated as 3.4Meg.

:/

18 to 20 megs is about right to be honest, though it is only a rough guide. Before I went over to cable my BT line had an attenuation that hovered between 19dB and 20dB and I connected at 20mbps with a default profile and 22.5 Mbps with a 3dB SNR profile on fastpath. You'll get a decent speed with that line so don't worry.

ISP checkers are very conservative on purpose. Imagine if they estimated you would get approximately 20Mbps and after signing up your internal wiring turned out to be poor, and you "only" got 15Mbps... The ISP would be the first to get an ear bashing and you'd want out. This way you're pleasantly surprised.

Think Scotty promising he can only fix the engines in 10 hours or so, honest injun Cap'n; just so he'd look teh awesome when he did it in half the time. :D

Yes I get that, but Talktalk estimate 3.4mbps, which seems a bit too conservative.

Signed up with o2, just waiting for my mac code from nildram.

So what's the deal with LLU and Draytek 2800?

Right, so i'm now on o2, and it's a solid 14mbps connection. I'm happy as it's more than twice as fast as it used to be, but can't help thinking the line is capable of more.

Can I tweak this 585v7? Can I put a Thomson firmware on it?

That seems quite a low sync for your attenuation...

Have you tried plugging the router into the test socket to see what sync you get from there?

Yeah, it connects slightly higher at 14.2mbps in the test socket.

I've been advised to try a quiet line test, by dialing 17070 from an analogue phone, pressing option 2 and listening for noise on the line. If theres noise I should call BT and get an engineer out?

I don't have an analogue phone :/
