i am currently on Superfast Fibre 2 Unlimited, so i have been using the very limited Home hub 5
not that it should make any difference but if anyone wants to know i am on a Huawei 288 FTTC Fibre Cab
*** let's remove the reference to illegal activity for starters ***
until recently the orange pi has been rock solid, now it tends to throw a wobbly every few days, it is intermittent, sometimes it could be days sometimes it could be hours or even minutes, pull the power, let it reboot and its all good again, not ideal though
so i was looking for a better solution, come across a few ebay sellers with a Mikrotik vpn router, wasn't interested in paying for another vpn host when i am already with PIA, so i got myself a Mikrotik Hap ac2
now being on the very limited home hub 5, i can connect the AC2 to the HH5 via network cable with subnet 192.168.1.0-254, the AC2 gets an IP address from the HH5 (192.168.0.253) and i can surf the net just fine, i can ping and scan my network and see all devices connected if my computer is connected through the AC2
if my computer is connected through the HH5 i cant get any access to the AC2 or any device connected to it, cant see anything beyond 192.168.0-254 if i scan the network
my original idea was to have a vpn connection on the AC2 so every device connected goes through the vpn, which is possible but i want or should i say need access to the devices on the AC2 as well (SSH, Sonarr, jacket, transmission, etc)
would it be easier to invest in a third party modem and do everything through the AC2 (HH5 residential doesnt have bridge mode) or get a third party router in which i could set routing options in so i could have 2 different subnets which are accessible from either side or try and get the AC2 and HH5 to play together on the same subnet providing DHCP and NAT are turned off on the AC2 and all DHCP assignments are done through the HH5
any and all input appreciated, just ask if you want more information
thanks
