Milk For Bodybuilding

I like milk but it's not the best in this country owing to how it's produced (homoginised and pasturised - though homoginisation's my pet hate.)

However it's ok, but not the best thing in the world. But I do enjoy it I must say.

The yanks use it lots as a bulking tool - there's a diet called "GOMAD" - basically you drink a gallon (US) of milk a day. Not ideal IMO... but there you go.

A gallon a day lol, I like the odd ice cold pint of milk through the week:eek:.

I'm not certain on how this affects it nutrionally, but as someone who makes cheese at home I agree it's a pain as I have to buy super expensive un-homogenised milk as homogenisation ruins milk for cheese making! and making a stilton is expensive work so don't want ruined by crap milk!

Pasturisation takes more out of it, but it's hard to find unpasturised milk. From what I've read and understood the homoginisation process does break protein strands and denatures them. The way I see it, the more a food is processed the less amount of nutrition it is going to have left in it.

I finally managed to find where they keep the Jersey gold top in the supermarket so I'll be buying that from now on. Whilst I try and keep away from milk purely because there are better things to eat - HOWEVER I do love it, and it is a good snack, but a bit too rich in carbs, but if you're not intolerant to it and drink it slowly, it's not bad.

Jersey gold top

I buy this, not for bodybuilding but just cos its the best of a bad bunch. There are dairies at a local level now which I believe are selling un-homogenised and un-pasturised milk to customers (remember reading about it in the Indie or on the been site I think) this is likely still at a srictly rural level though as I am sure the gov would legislate against it if they cottoned on to it

if you can get good milk its great.

whenever i go to poland I always get it straight from the farm - lovely!

going again in april and will be training with the same powerlifter as before, so will be drinking a lot of milk per day :)

I drink **** loads of milk, Sometimes i can get through 2 litres in 2-3 days:o

I normaly drink non homogenized milk.
But ive just lost my job so onto the el cheapo supermarket milk for a bit:(

If i really want i can go out to my mates dairy farm and get milk straight from the cow though:cool:

lol last year I was drinking 4pts/day of blue top without fail. Down to 4pints of green every two days ish. Have it with shakes and muesli

Tend not to drink any/very little now as I tend to get most my calories in from food and have blended oats/banana/whey in the morning, when I do though its purple milk.

Wow, do you know how much saturated fat that is? Better hope your family doesnt have a history with heart problems!

Sure excessive is bad definitely. But sat fats are critical to bodybuilding. Saturated fat and cholesterol also have a direct association with testosterone production. However, it's all about balance, if you balance the sat fat and cholesterol intake with a good diet it can be beneficial. The bad fats you want to keep away from are hydrogenated, and tryglycerides and transfats. What I'm alluding to is that you don't want to cut out sat fats completely. :)
