Hi Guys,

I have been using my ATI HD6970 to crunch WU for Milkyway@home and Collatz conjecture for a few months now and all was well, until 3 days ago. Now all I get is computation error for every Milkyway WU but not Collatz Conjecture which is using the same graphics card!!!

Has anyone come across this before or have any ideas why I can crunch Collatz & Milkyway for a couple of months then without changing anything I am now only able to crunch Collatz?

Any input would be grateful

Theres not a great deal of Milkyway activity on these forums, you might be better off trying the Milkyway message boards. The only thing I could suggest is maybe try and detatch/attach the project if you haven't already tried that? As for the difference between Collatz and MW, Collatz is a CAL app which only uses single precision where as MW is Open CL and uses double precision so this could make some difference.

Hi Demonstag,
it could be a driver issue, but first off you should detach/restart your PC/re-attach to MWAH. Manually running CPU benchmarks in BOINC might help, too.
Had a similar problem last time new version of BOINC came out...
They've been doing some fiddling on the 6970 WUs, I think, possibly you got a few duff WUs.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input, I re-installed the old driver and detached/restarted my PC/re-attach to MWAH, however it made no difference. I also tried the benchmark and still had issues, so I checked the card with GPU-Z and noticed that it was not showing as OpenCL compatible. I searched for openCL.dll and found it was missing, reinstalled it to the boinc folder and sytem32, restarted PC and Boinc and all is well with MWAH. Thanks for the input.

Cheers
