Hello all, thought I would ask the opinion of you knowledgeable folks in here!
I'm looking for a new camera
Basically, what I'm looking for is:
Large zoom
Compact (I recognise the advantage of cams taking Nimh AAs but I want something smaller!)
Good in low light
Some degree of manual control
Fast startup
Low shutter lag
~£200
The ones I've been looking at include:
Ricoh Caplio R5
- Obviously the main plus point of this is the huge 7x zoom and great wide angle in a small camera, and also seems to be acclaimed for its speed. However I'm not sure the picture quality is as good as from Canons in the same class. But will I even notice the difference? Not like I'm going to be doing 100% crops on every picture I take... And it doesn't have an AF assist lamp, so it supposedly isn't too brilliant in low light. Again, will that affect me?
Canon Ixus 800 IS
- I'm not sure I've heard anything negative about this, and it does seem nearly everything I want; the only thing being that this baby has a 4x optical compared to the Ricoh above, even though it looks like this performs better. It's just a case of me deciding whether I really need the extra tele length from the Ricoh
Kodak V610
- Quite cool, has bluetooth! And apparently really well built and has 10x zoom with the dual lens jobby, but without image stabilisation, some reviews think the picture quality isn't amazing, and has no manual controls at all, so no playing around with stuff on this. But it does look very nice.
Panasonic TZ1
- Again 10x optical, looks like a pretty good all round camera, but the biggest of the lot here, and I'm not sure if I'd get annoyed with the clip on lens cap... Reviews say the AF is very very good, but again there is not control of things like shutter/aperture for me to play with.
Actually I don't think any of the above have any control over shutter or aperture, but I think I'll probably be able to overlook that.
Has anyone got any experiences with the above cameras? Or can recommend any others that might fit the bill? Which would you pick?
Thanks for the time to read, and any pointers given
