Ordering a milltek for my car next week, I ordered already but told out of stock but another place has one.

I am wondering wether to choose resonated or non resonated? Some people describe the non res as boomy inside the cabin, milltek emailed to tell me the non res has no cabin intrusion but according to the audi-sport forums this is incorrect?

Has anyone any experience with milltek exhausts and can tell me your thoughts? Also I assume being stainless it won't rust, but are they made well?

They're really good systems. Sound great get the lovely noise on the overrun.

Used to have one on my Corsa VxR.... Forgive me.

Told you to get the milltek from the start. Non-res will be boomy I reckon, isn't there anyone local who has it on the same model car as yours, so you can hear it for yourself? Or from videos even.

I personally wouldn't get a Milltek. I have had two.

The first was on a Golf 1.8T, full turbo back, non-res. It sounded good admittedly, a bit droney on the motorway, but you can put up with it if you want the ripping sound rest of the time. However, it snapped at the flange to the turbo, needed it re-welded, twice. I swore I wouldn't get another.

Then got my V6 4motion Golf, and got another when they were on offer. Cat-back resonated this time. Still a bit of droning on the motorway, but less so than the non res. Sounded great on full chat though. But not at lower revs. Sounded very tinny, with not much substance. And this was from a 2.8 VR6 engine.

Then I said, again, I wouldn't have another Milltek. And I haven't. And wouldn't actually recommend one. Get on some local car forums, or ask in local sections of national forums (E38, Audi-Sport etc...) for a rated custom exhaust specialist. Will no doubt be cheaper than Milltek, same lifetime warranty, local if you want to change anything, YOU can spec the noise characteristics you want, and choose the tailpipe design you want too. MUCH better idea really. Was ace for my S4 (4.2 V8), and a route I will ALWAYS take in the future.

I've had two milltek exhausts, one on an FN2 type R which sounded good but was pretty loud really. I bought it second hand and the clamps were all rusted to oblivion. In fairness the replacement ones I got were totally different and much more substantial, and milltek told me they had changed them because of quality issues.

The other is on my MX5 now, fits well and sounds good....pretty subtle, its one if the few exhausts that doesnt sound much to loud on the mk3 mx5 once youve changed the manifold. Generally the milltek exhausts I've heard (quite a few - focus st, fiesta st, mondeo st220...) are quite subtle.

I have non-res on my Fiesta ST, orginally with just a catback it wasn't too intrusive but when I put the decat on it became very very bad in the cabin, thankfully it doesn't bother me but I've had passengers comment on it.

Slight offtopic. I have a milltek exhaust for a mk5/mk6 golf gti I'm trying to sell. Where would you say the best place to try is? Usual suspects of fleebay and enthusiast forums?

I have a milltek on the Corrado and the fit is poor which is apparently not uncommon on some cars. So check with other owners of your particular car and see what their experience are.

From what I've read the Miltek systems aren't the ones to go for with the TFSI engines as they suffer with cracked welds due to the movement of the engine. Have you looked at the BCS power valve systems, I'm not 100% sure if they do one for the 1.8TFSI but they have a bit better build quality and are quieter unless you are driving hard.

BCS only do one for the S3.

I only know of about 3 people in the whole country who have the same car as me.

I want a bit of noise but not OTT like this custom one is now, it is boomy I took my Nan and Mother to hospital today and Mother said she wanted to puke when she got home. Milltek specifically state 0 noise intrusion in the cabin for both options.

Fitment wise I am told this is fine from current owners of A3's and they supposedly fixed the rust / crack issue and they have a warranty anyway.

I figure I order the cheaper non res and if it is boomy I can order the resonator seperatly and have it fitted it should just clamp in - if that is boomy too then it is back to OEM and honestly I won't bother with any other mods inc remap and just upgrade the car at a later date. But if it sounds good then I will :)

They used to have a flexi section between the manifold and main pipe, but this is going back ten years or so, not sure if it was part of the system or if the fitter added it as an extra

Wait, so you already have a custom one then? Then go to a custom place and just get them to modify it rather than forking out for an overpriced "fashion" exhaust surely?

What car do you have that there are less of them than there are Aventadors?
