yea thanks...... it looks like it'll either cost me about 50 quid ..... or buy a pile of junk for 20quid and take a risk.

i'm very upset about this... this money was meant for my new pc, i should have replaced the PSU in january

next rig will be Corsair 850W.....

i'll talk to the guys in the shop, maybe they have an old PSU that still works for mine and will last a year....i might just by a pile of junk and hope for the best,

So your system is out of action because of one dying PSU, and you're thinking about buying a cheap junk PSU to replace it?

Always, always buy decent PSUs. It's the most important component in your system and the only one which can kill everything else if it dies.

my current PSU is WIN POWER 650...

hang around, this is a pile of junk too... but i told him to build a high end rig 4 years ago!
maybe it was ok 4 years ago... this psu was ok for about 2 years....maybe i should replace it with the same....dont forget it only has to last another year....it only costs 20 quid:D:D:D

Until the piece of junk blows up and takes your 9800GTX and half your other gear with it... it costs 20 quid because it's rubbish.

Never use crap power supplies if you value your gear. It won't have the protection features that decent PSUs have, which makes using it with a power-hungry GFX card a really bad plan.

yes, you're right....because that PSU was once used with a far less powerful card....4 years ago... the card was updated twice last year, plus on a maximum overclock.

i wont even touch it again until the PSU is replaced..... the shop quoted 50 quid for a new PSU, which is about right....Win XP needs a fresh install, it's totally ruined as is Fallout 3/ Steam.... the PC has crashed so many times that quite a few files are missing.

i'm surprised it's still working, tonight i was very lucky indeed....that mobo is one tough *******

That 500W will also do ;)

But as recommended, why not get a decent PSU now (600~700W) & have 1 less thing to worry about/budget in your next build?

Quoted from truth, it's always worth getting at the very least a decent brand PSU as you don't want to gamble the rest of your hardware. I recently got hold of a 600w OCZ ModXstream and can't say a bad thing about it.

i'm after the Corsair 850w for my next build, but not now

i'll get the OCZ stealth stream 500 sxs.... it's in the top 10 of quality PSU's at 500w...
http://www.shop.bt.com/products/ocz-technology-500w-stealthxstream-power-supply-4ZWQ.html

BUT today i went into a pc shop up the road and they recommended the Q-TEC 650W.... i came home, did a search on the web and it's a pile of junk....it's one of the worst PSU there is, if not the worst..... NOW THIS IS REALLY BAD, that shop should know better!
