I just bought a new monitor that has 1920x1200 res (that has not arrived yet) but i still have an old hd3850 :(. I only realy play quake live and nfs:world but will definitely try BF3 and some new games and probably the new CS. Has anyone bought a monitor with 1920 with a relatively old graphics card, how does that level of card perform at that 1920 res. At 1400x900 i have never realy had much of a problem with games running on high detail. Although more recent games are starting to be a bit sluggish, like the new crysis. That was a bit slow when running at 1400x900 and i had to bring the details down etc :(

So the question is what is the minimum recommended spec for a graphics card to get the most out of my new monitor and problem is that i don't have a lot of money. I was thinking of buying a second hand card maybe a 6xxx series or at the least a 4890. But was thinking a 4890 might be a waste as i would be better off going to 6xxx. I saw bf3 recommended is a 6950...

At 1920 x 1200 on BF3, the 6950 or 560ti (see linky's below) are the bare minimum gfx cards I would recommend if you want to get the most out of your new monitor.

However, it will cost between £160-£200 and you said you did not have much cash :(

You maybe lucky and find a second hand 6950/560Ti in the ocUK members market or the obvious other sites for 2nd hand goods but be prepared to spend at least £100+.

EDIT - What CPU have you got as some older CPU's can bottleneck the newer more powerful GPU's?

I have a core 2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz (wolfdale) oc to 3.2ghz

What about a bare minimum, say i wanted to play at 1920 res at medium details. just so that it is playable. minimum card spec.

The minimum spec cards for gaming that I would consider are the 460 / 6850. Have a look at those, as well as the 560 and 6870. Ideally you wouldn't want to go too much higher anyway due to a bottleneck because of the cpu.

Well my 8800GTX can play most games on medium at 1080p. Not the really high end ones though :(

460 would be my minimum (1gb version)
