Min Spec to develop iPhone apps

I'd like to start developing some iPhone apps

Only problem is that the mac I have is from the dark ages, non intel. Is it right that you can only run the iPhone SDK on intel based macs?

If that is the case what mac should I be hunting for that will cost me the least amount of money

The apps I want to write are for personal use at the moment so I don't need anything fancy just yet

Yes you are right, you need an Intel based mac and Snow Leopard.
