Not seen a thread in here for Mince Pies as of yet?

Tried Asda, M&S and Aldi's Mince Pies and I have to say I enjoyed the Aldi ones the most but M&S weren't far behind.

Dad usually makes 2 dozen but most of the family are having their own little xmas's and because the low price on each supermarkets pies we tried the above 3.

So have you had any from the high street which have been good? or do you prefer to make your own.

I hate store bought mince pies. There almost as awful as frozen roast potatoes. I particularly hate it when they're covered in icing sugar.

I think the best mince pies are always home made using short crust pastry (forget about puff pastry). They only take about half an hour if you get store bought pastry.

Homemade, including the mincemeat which by the way has been maturing for 6 months in the cupboard and is absolutely blinding.

I did buy a box of mr kipling ones on a whim because they were only £1, they were alright, bit sickly I thought, pastry was dry as well. Not tried any others.

Horrid things. If they were actually nice then people would eat them all year round, not just at xmas. Same for xmas pudding (and wedding cake - not that we necissarily eat wedding cake at xmas, but you get the point).

Usually have home made ones and if I do get from shop. Then it's the puff pastry ones.
Last years mince is still sat ontop of the microwave, so I might use it up. Or actually did I chuck it out in a clean up.. Hmm not sure now with out having a look.

I like all the above, but they're special occasion kinds of things, good once in a while but very rich and not something you want too often.

Gf made her own again this year, bit heavy on the brandy though, eat 3 and your half cut. Natural sugars from the mix is a pain, every key and mouse button is like glue

My mums bringing home made puff pastry ones up this year. I have the ice cream and brandy butter at the ready so they will last all of 45 seconds
