Minecraft Account - What DOB to use?

Getting Minecraft for the kids - It appears to allow you to register using a DOB for someone aged under 13. Is it best to use their DOB or mine? I can't seem to find anything to suggest it will not allow registration with theirs and think that if I do it may lock some content (which I think may be a good thing?).
