Hi,

I only get around 90 fps on minecraft, even with optifine multicore installed on my radeon hd 6870.. people with similar cards get like 100-300FPS.

this is my rig:
CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
Graphics Card - XFX Radeon HD 6870 DD Edition
PSU - 500w OCZ ModXStream Modula Power Supply
RAM - 8GB Corsair Vengeance (4gbx2)
Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
Case - Aerocool Strike-X One Midi Tower Case

i also get like 60FPS on skyrim and crysis 2 maxed out..

Have you overclocked your CPU? What's your Minecraft settings? I also notice MC runs better with 64 bit Java, could give that a go.

all drivers are up to date, ill take a look at java, and what are safe settings for stock everything, and i dont want to reduce my cpu life? (i want to run for atleast 1-3 years on this cpu)

3.8ghz should be reachable on 1.4v, maybe a little bit more. 1.5v is the max if I remember correctly. My old 965 is still running on 3.8ghz @ 1.4v since 2/3 years ago (now owned by a friend).

This is the settings I have if I want max FPS, but it uses a lot of GPU power so I just set the performance to Power Saver. No point going over 60 fps since my screen is 60hz...

You are not gonna get constant 60fps maxed out on these two games with neither your current CPU or graphic card...

As for minecraft, I don't see the problem with only getting 'only' 90fps, unless you got a 120Hz monitor. Standard monitors only output 60fps max on 1920 res anyway.

I do get solid constant 60FPS +/- on those games. I run 1024 x 768

The problem with minecraft at 'only' 90 FPS is I want to download lots of very detailed texture packs, and I am guessing that will hurt the FPS a lot.

The only reason I am guessing is because for some reason I cant download from media fire.. At all, I need some help on that.. I tried using alternate download managers other than directly from firefox (such as jDownloader) and it still didn't work.. I copied the actual download link and I just get a blank screen.

Do you have any AA settings forced in CCC? Try setting all the CCC to default. I had forced set and got 30fps in League of Legends. After turning it to application mode I had capped 60 for Vsync. 90fps isn't bad and I doubt adding more blocks to that game will hurt fps lol. Especially at that decade year old resolution.

I would never overclock a computer to play Minecraft, this is crazy.

Also, why not just add the mods etc and see what it's like? Would make more sense if you actually had a problem with running the game, 90FPS is high I'm sure my 7970 doesn't run BF3 at over 100fps but it's still smooth gameplay.

What..

I cant download mods because for some reason media fire wont work (read my post properly please)

Lol overclocking a cpu to play minecraft sounds something like what the Swedish would do.

I have problems with Mediafire as well, at first it won't download so I wait for a bit for "Download not started?". Then I click that and it works.

On the other hand, what video settings do you have? And it's not really a game that needs to run on ultra high FPS anyway :p.
