Morning all. I've been asked to spec up a Minecraft machine for a 8 year old. Think *budget* machine.

18 months ago this would be trivial. 3600, low end graphics, job done. Now I've no idea. Budget, 300-500. Thoughts?

And don't say "that's too young". I've lost that argument.

Google is your friend would be my thought.
I was asking here because I figured there would be some wisdom as to the current breakpoints for things like APU Vs discrete graphics cards in the current market. I almost expected an answer of "forget it at that price in today's market"

It’s possible because I’ve done exactly that 2x

i recently gave my son a 6600k sysyem, it ran minecraft with onboard graphics @1080p. he's much happier now ive donated my 1060 to him, but he managed just fine.
That's exactly what I was thinking of doing before my old 6600k was killed by lightning. Now I've got a new build... and he's looking on enviously.

If you are looking for something cheap, why don't you go for a last gen console? (ps4 or xbox one)
