Hi all,

Has anyone got any good resources for getting started with multiplayer? I have no idea how it works and I don't want to jump onto a random server only to be slayed as soon as I go near other players, so looking for a crash course in online play.

Do some servers allow people to go in and work in teams to mine/farm food to help keep everyone else alive etc? I've only played single player, and I've got one save where I'm at the point of making more food than I know what to do with so I'm wondering what to do next.

You can host your own and play with friends, I've done this and it's quite fun.

"Public" (or groups affiliated with a particular website or whatever) servers are a whole different ballgame; some collaborative and relatively peaceful, some full-on PvP.

There are a whole load of different public servers out there. Some are peaceful (PvE), some encourage fighting (PvP), some have economies where you can earn in game currency for doing tasks, some have factions, and there are combinations of the above. Some are 'vanilla' where you play as standard minecraft, some have plugins to allow you to set homes, some are full 'modded' to include extra blocks/machines/computers/magic!!

Some servers are open to any player - you just type in the ip, login and off you go. Others are whitelisted, where you need to 'apply' before you can join.

You'll need to have a think about what kind of game play you want to get into, then find a server you like the sound of and jump in.

I admin an open server - it's mostly PvE but players can PvP if they want. We do have an economy and we're mostly co-lab with public access farms etc. We have a few plugins to make the game easier to play - you can set a home for example, and we have warps to locations for faster travel.

However, the server owner and I are discussing some changes on the server to try and generate new player traffic. We are running on version 1.9.4 at the moment, but will be moving to 1.11 in the next few weeks. We'll probably ditch the economy and trim out some of the other plugins. Feel free to hop on and have a play, but we are quiet at the moment. You'll need change your version to 1.9.2 to play - details here: http://cooltable.org/minecraft

But like I say, there's going to be changes fairly soon. Laters :)

Does Minecraft Windows 10 Edition support cross-play with Xbox One yet?
If not, what is the purpose of Windows 10 Edition?

Thanks
