Minecraft - What a strange game.

Hello, recently I have been playing minecraft with my friend on my own server and we were pottering about just fine learning it all and had pretty much spent 2 days playing it when we all of a sudden realised that the only thing we had accomplished was digging a whole network of tunnels to get resources to dig more tunnels!

In the end we felt a bit lost and blew up the entire world pretty much. Tnt packs quite a punch.

What do you guys do? Do you just make big houses? Are there any custom maps which are a challenge to survive etc because currently the mobs are just irritating more then a challenge.

You can download adventure maps.

Building a lot of actual thought out buildings/towns/cities is awesome.

I tend to mine a lot, I just dig what seem like endless tunnels until I get bored and go in another direction.

I have a thing for towers with / water / lava running down them as well.

Other then that, I don't suppose I do much aha!

I see, it seems strange to me that I just lost two days that I should have been revising for my exams on and truely didn't actually achieve anything yet I enjoyed doing nothing :S.

Unfortunetly now the shallowness of this has become apparent to me and I can't enjoy it any more.

I get stages of this, then just go back to it.

I find it relaxing and just "nice" if you get that trucking about.

The Linktart server is pretty ace, you should give that a go

On days off I tend to sit down in the morning for "20 minutes play" and end up not moving for several hours

I think i've managed a 7 hour stint so far and then I set my giant wood house on fire when I made a fireplace for the first time :'(. My friend I was doing it with was not happy!

There are plenty of mods for single player that can make it more fun.

I like making roller coasters with the track and cart.

Or cannons with the tnt.

I was going to buy the game some time ago but since then the price rose by another £5 and all future DLC will be most likely paid for so I just gave up on this game.

I think he's clearly speculating, there has been no such mention of any DLC at this point.

It would make sense if they brought out pay for DLC as there would be a huge market for it. That is, considering its a one man team his market size is rather substantial.

That being said, the game is so easily modified that I would speculate that really any dlc will likely have already been made by the community or soon after.

I don't really think there will ever be DLC, the game is no where near finished at this point either.

I'm sure Notch has always said that once he's finished with it he'd hand everything over to the modders.
