I know the juggernaut that is WoW takes up most of the MMO player base but haven't seen much talk of the LOTRO expansion.

Who's pre-ordered? I've gone for the CE. Lovely looking box with some exclusive in-game goodies (not expecting much more than the cloaks that came with SoA though).

Have also taken a break from the game as the Warden class report looked so good I wanted to go into it afresh. Leather armour with shield and spear really fits the skirmisher type unit that I like. Apparently also has ranged javelins, stealth (and stealth based attacks), ports and run speed. Sounds like a bit of Guardian, Hunter and Burglar all rolled into one. The Gambit system looks pretty great as well

Haven't read too much about the Runemaster but it seems as though they have added a mage/nuker type class while desperately trying not to muller the lore.

Lotro is a class PvE game, am sure this expansion will go down well with sub'ers. Not sure if it will draw in more players tho, with WAR and the WoW expansion coming. But at the least it will keep the population at a steady number.

I have finally pre-ordered mine. I have just gone for the normal addition. Not one for the ingame items as personally dont think they will better anything that I can already get my mits on from questing or guildies making for me, and I already have a lifetime sub. In the process of levelling my second character to 50 in time for release, not looking like making it though, only level 35 at the moment.

I will probably role one of the two new classes at some point but will look to join my guildies and run through the expansion with my main account first.

Aye even with the popularity of the films and books it was always going to be a niche MMO next to WoW.

The Runemaster may bring a few magey type players in.

Have a liftime sub so I will get this. Not preordering it though I'll just nip into a shop when it's out! Have a level 50 hunter so will be fun to get him up to max and then I will look at hte other class (the Runemaster primarily!).

In my opinion LOTRO is the best PvE game out there even though I stopped playing about 6 months ago. Does the new expansion apart from new classes have new decent size starter and mid level areas? The only criticism I had was that the world is a bit small for a PvE game.

The new expansion is primarily aimed at the higher level characters as its a continuation of the story following where you finish in SoA.

As for the world being a little small, I personally don't think it is. I have got 1 level 50 and 1 level 35 character and apart from starting my second character around 6 months ago have been playing my main account daily since release and I still havent visited every area available.

Not to mention the 5 books that have been added to date and opening up another area in Evendim. The world available to date is considered to be 1 fifth of the overall size it will be once they have added all relevant expansions etc.

I don't think there are any new starter areas.

The 30+ game isn't as bad as it was. There are a few more options. Its the 20-30 game that I'm not keen on. Pretty sick of the North Downs and Lone Lands now.

I had hoped Lothlorien was going to be a new starting area for elves, they really do need a bit of variety in places to level early on in the game. If I have to play through the lone lands again I'll scream. The expansions are coming a bit too slowly for my liking too, I really want to see gondor and Rohan, but Gondor in particular looks to be about 3 years away at this rate.

They make some odd development decisions sometimes (the goats obviously) and spending time on the whole chicken play thing too boggled me a bit. It was vaguely interesting in a useless kind of way, but there are a lot more interesting things they could be doing.

It would be great to move on from the Shire to somewhere other than the Lonelands/North Downs combo.

My problem with these two areas is that more than any other, you spend far too much time travelling to quests rather than playing the game. I'm an explorer but even so its painful. Especially the quests from Esteldin.

I'm suprised at Lothlorien as well. I'd assumed that Rohan and Gondor would be new starting places for Men but maybe not now.

I think that Turbine have got it right and wrong by not focussing on low level areas on their expansion. Yes Mines of Moria is an expansion of Middle Earth as we know it, although the majority of it is to be set underground so you would expect it to be high level players only.

At the end of the day MoM is a continuation of the epic story, with additional sub quests/dungeons/raid areas added also, not to mention the new classes (more below). That meaning that by the time the adventurers reach the starting area for MoM you would have expected them to have completed the 14 Books that proceed it and have level 50 characters so naturally the expansion is going to be what I would hope is the next 14 books in their epic journey.

I wouldnt want to have wasted all that time getting to level 50, finishing the 14 books only for a proportion of the new expansion to be low level and of no benefit to me.

However, on the other side of the coin, they are introducing two new classes, and with them you would assume that these classes wouldnt have been around at the beginning of the saga (in this case Books 1-14) and therefore only stumbled upon by us the adventurers around Book 15 (MoM) so you would have thought they would have had an area within MoM for both the Runemaster and the Warden to start in and players to learn the class. Then say at level 15-20 they need to move out into Middle Earth to further themselves. Then you either need to head towards the Lonelands/North Downs to level up, or risk dieing and heading into MoM.

However, I would like them to speed up the release of the updates because as previously mentioned, there are areas I cannot wait to visit but going on the timelines its going to be some time away. That is unless they plan another content update midway through next year like they did with introducing Evendim.

Because I have not played for 6 months I would find it difficult to get into my Minstrel again plus I would love to roll a new character so that's why I was hoping for a new starter areas.

Are the new classes support type classes as I would not mind playing a damage dealing support type class that does not pull. Playing classes like the Minstrel you always gets blamed when things go wrong and the party is wiped.

lifetime sub here, and having gotten bored of the quality PvE i moved to just playing my 'creeps' , sadly the new changes made to the Ettenmoors monster play will probably kill it for me... hope im wrong

i cancelled this pre-order due to how good WAR is

the problem with new starting area is this, you already need the traits to be decent end game, a new level 10-20 area means either no extra trait levels, so the new players would still need to quest in the other area's to get traits as they normally would. Or they add more traits and the new area's are swapped as everyone is rolling new alts there and all the oldies are running around on their mounts tagging everything for traits and destroying the area for the lowbies. Either way would be crap for the new players to get into the game.

They could do with an alternate area to level in, hopefully in the further expansions they will add entirely new 0-50 level area's though it doesn't seem to be the way they are going. Otherwise for every new class you'll be doing the same thing over and over and over for years.

I'm not sure if theres ever a plan to add the creeps side with a starting world some 0-50 stuff and a few zones maybe where both sides can level from maybe 20 or 30 onwards, maybe even world pvp aswell.

Basically theres tonnes of routes they can go but not sure if they'll bother with too much. I do think the game is moving FAR to slowly. While some people would probably be happy to play for the next decade, I won't. It seems like a fairly small expansion considering the time its taken, unless they have a few teams working on various expansions and it was a particularly small team getting something out inbetween much larger expansions I can see getting bored of it very soon.

I've just started playing the game following my brain numbing boredom that is T4 in Warhammer (which i might go back to if Mythic change things.. but not holding my breath).
So far I'm really enjoying it - only thing that frustrates me is that there doesnt seem to be a way of keeping track of where each individual quest npc is located which leads me to having a quest log half full of completed quests but no idea where I'm meant to hand them in... bit annoying.
Will probably stick with it regardless.. just need to find a nice fellowship now
