I've got a 54 plate Mini Cooper S that has got a weird little fault that I can't figure out and thought I'd ask on here before putting 50quid in a dealers pocket for a diagnostic

When I first start the car and drive, the ASC light comes on when I accelerate and it doesn't accelerate as it normally does.

If I turn ASC off, the car drives perfectly

Then if I start driving with ASC off and then turn it on, no problems

Any ideas????

Sounds like you have a problem with your ASC. I'll PM you my email for payment.

EDIT: ok i won't be that mean. I'm assuming ASC is traction/stability control so the first thing i would check is if your ABS is working correctly. If it is, its most probably going to be an electrical problem somewhere between the ABS sensor and ASC controller

They can be a bit of a pain to get out sometimes, but most deffo a ABS sensor. I have a similar fault, over active traction control system on my R53 around roundabouts or bumps. I turn it off every time I get in the car.

Probably just a bit of dirt or dust on an ABS sensor, 99% of the time any motors I have seen with TC light issues its due a bit of **** on a sensor.

Dealer will just charge you £50 diag then fit a new sensor dirty or not, get the wheels off and have a look around.

For something like this and a car that old (mine's a 53), I would be going to an independent rather than a main dealer.

well had someone check my car out today with one of those diagnostic readers but no error codes were there.

all abs sensors seems ok so kinda confused as to what the problem is

This is what ASC does (nothing to do with ABS)

The ASC + T system will reduce engine output until the vehicle can move or or until acceleration can occur without the wheels spinning. If this reduction is insufficient, each drive wheel is braked individually until both wheels have optimum traction. This makes it possible to drive on snow, wet roads or other slippery grounds without the wheels spinning. Even if the back wheels suddenly lose traction in a bend during acceleration, ASC + T intervenes so quickly that the vehicle is stabilized before it can oversteer and swing out of the bend. The instrument console informs the driver of any control intervention and the relevant situation.

Looks like a Mini specialist or Main Stealer

the guy ran his diagnostic computer and no errors came up and when he had it plugged in whilst driving and it happened, nothing came up...so kinda confused

just makes it more confusing that if the car stands for minute or two before driving to 'warm up' it wont happen

Mine is similar. Like I say, I just turn it off soon as I start up. Shame it doesn't remember to stay off.

well I now have a more serious issue....

come to take my car out today and the central locking on the fob didn't work. no problems I thought as it may just be the battery, unlocked manually and put key in ignition but nothing, no lights no nothing...dead

opened the bonnet and there was a very strong electic burning smell but i couldnt see what was causing this. so something has obviously burnt out or something to cause the battery to drain

put a voltmeter on the battery and it read 0, so it was fully drained

called out the recovery guy to take a look and he got it to start by jump starting it but all the warning lights came on and the big one, the engine carried on running after i pulled the key out and lights were on even though they were off in the car

has anyone got any ideas at all?

at the moment i've got the battery disconnected in the car and im trying to find a local mini specialist to speak to

my sister had this issue before, we checked all the ecu bits for damp etc, but it turned out the power steering was leaking a tiny amount of fluid onto some electrics, so that would be the first place to look as the pas is known for failing
