Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Max Resolution

Hi

I was wondering if the generic male Mini DisplayPort to female hdmi adapters (the cheap ones from the bay) would support 1440p resolutions.

E.g. One lisiting says this: "Supports Mini DisplayPort 1.1a input and High Speed HDMI specification (Version 1.3b) output
Supports HDMI highest video resolution 1080p"

I thought HDMI 1.3 could support 1440p, but then it states max res 1080p.

It's for my MacBook Pro and I'm thinking about getting a Hazro at some point to replace my 1080p LG monitor. So while 1080 is fine currently, it would be a shame if I did get a higher res monitor and it wasn't supported.

So has anyone had any experiences with these adapters?

MDP will support higher resolutions so your limited by the HDMI, most of which top out at 1080p. If you buy a Hazro you would likely want MDP to Dual DVI.

Hmm I went ahead and ordered a hdmi adapter cos I use my DVI for my pc, then I accidentally pulled the trigger on a 1440p monitor last night.

It confuses me that HDMI 1.3 claims to be able to do 2560x1440 yet all that seems to be said is max res 1080p. Oh well looks like I'll be able to test it for myself.

You'll need the hideously priced mini displayport to dual link DVI adaptor I'm afraid. I'm in the same situation as I am planning on moving to a 1440p monitor.

I thought "oh it's only a cable it can't be too bad", had a look...n

I won't be buying one of them.

On another note I got my adapter today, works at 1080, took a bit of setting up on my monitor as initially everything was blurry and faded. Still looks like crap next to MacBooks glossy IPS, sigh. At least I've got a nice new shiny monitor on its way
