Mini DP to DP

I'm just looking to re cable some bits and pieces and would like to change out the dual link DVI cable I'm using. I'm connecting a 7970 to a Dell 2710 (2560x1440) so I figure display port is probably the best connection. The problem is the 7970s have mini DP and the monitor the full size socket.

Do you think I can find any mainstream dealers that do a decent 2 or 3m mini DP to DP cable? Can I heck as like. There seems to be a few converters but almost no direct cables. I'd rather not use an adapter if I can help it.

Is this combination really that unusual? Am I doing it wrong? Shall I just stick with DVI?

Actually, more to the point has anyone else come across the need to do mini DP to DP and found a decent cable/supplier?

Ta muchly?

You'll get exactly the same image quality with dual link DVI and DisplayPort.

Unless you have some other reason for changing then just leave it as it is.

Yeah, just rationalising some cabling down and I have a use for the DVI elsewhere so instead of buying another DL-DVI was going to replace it with DP. I was just surprised that Mini DP (on the GPU) to DP (on the 2710) seems tough to find a cable for.

I assume you have the U2711 as there isn't a U2710 as far as I know.

It has 2 DVI's so you can leave things as they are and use the second DVI for whatever it is you want to connect.

You cant get those.
A mini to full size adapter is only way and they work fine

Odd, I'm currently running a MDP to DP cable just fine :D

It's great for cable management and works fine on my Dell 2709

I bought a Startech Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Adapter Cable for about £7.

Yea you are useing an adapter... Just like i said

I'm not using an adaptor though (in terms of what the OP wants), it's a single cable mini display port one end, display port on the other.

An adaptor would be a separate piece that plugs into either the monitor or graphics card into which a dp/dp or mdp/mdp cable plugs into.

OP said he wanted a direct MDP to DP cable and didn't want to use adaptors, you said they don't exist, they do :) I think it's just the terminology that's the issue here, the cable I bought says adaptor in the title but it's actually a direct cable with no separate adaptors needed.
