Mini DVI out not working :(

trying to use my macbook on my 19" monitor

i've got a miniDVI - DVI adaptor, then i've got a DVI - VGA adaptor then a VGA cable to my screen.

but i can't get anything on the screen i can get the mac to see it but not get anything actually on the screen

Any ideas cheers?

dam it i just got the DVI to VGA adapto that fits too.

Oh well back to original get a VGA one...
