Colleague's got an F57 Mini and wants Android Auto, however he's struggling to find a compatible unit. I've had a quick Google and can't find any that specifically mention the F57.

Anyone know of any that are compatible?

Cheers!

What year is it as this will make a difference to the head unit which is fitted in? There's nothing special about the F57 compared with F55 or F56 as such but we need to know if it's NBT or NBT Evo.

It's a 2024 plate, he's only had it a couple of months. I've no idea whether it's an Evo or not (don't even know what the difference is!) but I'll ask him when he's in. Cheers for the reply :)

Based on 2024, it is indeed an NBT EVO ID6, which supports CarPlay properly but not Android Auto. There's a couple of options here:

- The free way although its only a workaround type thing and not really providing Android Auto is to get this app along with the Mini Connected/My Mini official App (or whatever it's called): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.hufman.androidautoidrive as it can provide some functionality of the apps through the headunit itself

- 2nd option although I don't know how reliable this one is: https://www.carlinkit.store/collect...Z7WsocPnquYBZ0ZvYCX7xvrXfD3U-3cxaNa0ZRHVpyi_7 - DO NOT BUY the later CarLink 5.0 as it doesn't do the same job. This device
will convert Wireless Android Auto to wired Apple Carplay protocol - I believe it has a little bit of a delay and does seem to have mixed reviews but can do the basic job and is quite cheap. Worst case buy it from Amazon and if it's pants send it back.

- 3rd option for the true Android Auto experience is to fit an aftermarket MMI box - again they aren't great as you have to use an external microphone in addition to the Mini one, the sound quality isn't the best as it goes through the AUX of the headunit and because they rely on firmware updates from Chinese manufacturers, they can be quite buggy! Invariably there's 3 places to buy them from but they are all the same thing just with a different looking casing and cost:

- If you're willing to buy from AliExpress then you want this one and click the 3rd option for ID6 which is £135: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000670669589.html - obviously you'll get clobbered for import tax etc.

- If you want to buy from the EU then cost goes up again and you can look at something like this: https://www.android-car-dvd.de/prod...-i8-gps-navigation-kit?variant=34628190404741

- There's some UK resellers like this but cost always seems to be stupid: https://www.makcoding.co.uk/product/bmw-carplay-android-evo-box/ / https://integratedautomotive.co.uk/...etrofit-carplay-and-android-auto-upgrade-kit/

- Have a look on eBay as there's some used options too but need to be sure they are for EVO and not the older CIC/NBT systems.

Unfortunately the F Series cars in terms of the platform are quite old now. The G Series has been prioritised into the BMW range rather than Mini from 2019.
