Mini-HDMI?? Dual DVI??

Hi guys, sorry this is probably a bit of newbie question but as my last build was way before mainstream HD technology, I'm a bit unsure about the mini-Hdmi connectors featured on what seems to be every card I have looked at.

Now you can obviously have Mini-HDMI to HDMI cables as you would with portable HD devices but does anyone know wether this is downgrade in quality or transfer speed even with an adapter over just a standard HDMI-HDMI connection? Theoretically I suppose it shouldn't be but I just want to make sure I'm not missing a trick anywhere. I have also noticed several cards state to have HDMI but put through dual DVI instead? To someone who hasn't dealt with this before it would seem unfathomable to have a true HDMI transfer through a completely different interface wether it's 1 or 2. All I really want is the best possible full HD result with my monitor without being compromised by the card and/or cable I choose.

I'm sorry if I sound stupid but hey, I gotta do my research;)

DVI and HDMI are electrically compatible.

AFAIK the mini-HDMI to HDMI adapters are just passive pass throughs so quality/performance won't suffer unless the adapter is very poorly constructed.
