Hi guys,

I don't really do small, but my dad wants a mini pic for browsing the web and managing photos from his SLR.

Want a really small case. Budget is £400--£500. No screen needed. Just a mouse and keyboard.

I would probably look at an Intel NUC. But would have to check if supports enough storage if lots of high megapixel photos are going to be stored on it.

I would not class that as a really small case Smallest Sugo perhaps, but more MATX size.....Cases I use for small ITX are 197x197 x80........This size will exclude a graphics card, but the APU is surprisingly capable. Mind you I really like the Sugo, thinking of one for a higher end build, it will be easier to build in than the very small cases....
I run an Athlon 51 with and MSI AM1 and a Gelid slim Hero cooler............the fan has never yet kicked in, just a twitch now and again as it gets nearer trigger temps.......Set at 60 to kick in and run at lowest percentage capability. On board temps are coolest I have ever had. No case fans used. I keep an airgap in the top fitting lid by using 5mm standoffs which is just enough for airflow.
The other benefit of the smaller case is more or less being denied any PSU choice but Pico.......and 80-90 watt version is more than enough. This frees up airspace in the case and keeps any heat outside in the brick. Saying that, @25 watt the CPU is not going to generate any noticable heat. In fact, I have considered using the Gelid heatsink as a passive CPU cooler but with a couple of case fans to properly shift air if needed but speed controlled IE:12 to 7 volts. Or just put the coller fan back, its good enough really.........2 x 50 mm or 60mm should do it.......Gelid silent 5 and 6 are what I use.
Ram can be modest......the minimal chipset is geared to 1333 and can handle 1600 but the performance difference is not worth noting.
Also with this chipset its single channel only so best off with single stick.
I use Hyperx or Gskill, not that I need the performance as explained, but its either left over from other builds or bought with a mind to using in later higher spec builds......
The Teamgroup suggested is excellent ram but the dual channel aspect is wasted on an AM1 build and I would use a single not a pair.
Samsung 850 boot is good, all I ever use anyway, but 120-128GB is plenty for boot.
I can go with 250GB if other progs need to be on it for speed, otherwise 128 and increase storage drive.............I use Tosh 1TB 2.5" HHD or WD in a DLink NAS.
The Samsung USB DVD is something I am keen on getting myself, very handy for the few times I might need optical.
Keyboards and mice can be liked or loathed from user to user..........I have settled on Logitech, K360 KB and mouse set which use a single USB unifying dongle.
I like it, there will be those who do not.

OS is not mentioned, but Win 10 Tech preview build is free and runs fine. Not a totally mature OS yet but good enough and getting better.
Or Win7 is plenty good enough and cheap for OEM or cheaper still for just license.
and for the sake of a tenner, I would get the Athlon 5350 rather than the 5150.
Tricky to put this in a "Basket" because its stuff best bought right place right time to keep it a low cost build.
