Mini laptop/calculator

I was in the library today and saw someone with a small (read 7" wide) laptop style device that had a qwerty keyboard and also was similar to a calculator. Essentially, it was like a mini laptop.

Anyone know what these types of devices are called as I want to do a search on them. Would be good to take a very very portable device with me to take notes. They are also probably quite cheap.

Thanks,

Jon

Well he may have been using a PDA, but at 7" wide it would have been an ultraportable PC.

Have a look a few pages ( think it was this forum, its in pc games aswell ) for a thread called 'who needs a psp in the garden .....' and also take a look at sony.

These gadgets aren't cheap at all though, looking at £800+ at least, sony's is £1.6k. They are however useful for reading and sending an odd email.

EDIT : as for what they are called, most commonally they are called UMPC ( ultra mobile pc ) and mini PC.

It looked too big to be a phone. Estimated dimensions were 10" x 4". Just got a ruler out to get an idea.

It reminded me a bit of a psion, you know those old pda style things.

I am certain it said Casio on it and two different people had them, both were Japanese.

Not sure, but Nokia definately do a phone that looks very Psion like. Look at the E90 on their website. It may have been that, if not Im not sure-nintendo DS?
