Got already 3 cards mining but was thinking of using the mini-pcie slot on the mobo to add one more GPU. What sort of adaptor can I use?

The USB is just the cable that connects each card so PCI-e 1x in mobo with USB cable pugged into it which leads to the larger 16x card which your graphics card is plugged in to.
The data will transfer via the USB3 cable.

The larger 16x card also has the Molex power connector which you should connect with a Molex direct from your PSU.

What I understand it just a USB3 cable, not a USB3 connection. (I could be wrong on this) So the cable is just being used to send the PCI-e 1x data as is.
This is also why the cable is only 60cm as once you go over 100cm it may not work.

Also the cable isn't the thing that really limits USB3 speeds, it's the USB3 hardware. At 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s) for USB3 is the same as a PCI-e 1x @ 2.0 speed. All be it in one direction, PCI-e can transfer that amount in both directions.

If you connected another PCI-e x1 device it would probably work, assuming latency wasn't causing a problem. Since it should be transferring all the data at PCI-e x1 speeds. But that's not what it's designed for.
