Hi guys,

I thought I would post my review of the Razer Onza Tournament Edition Xbox 360 controller.

These have been out for a while now, I did look at them as a possible purchase but it being wired always put me off so I never really pursued my interest. Anyway, my standard Elite controller was starting to pack up, after two years of usage the analogue stick had started to stick and the triggers were squeaking. Time for a new controller!

The standard Microsoft controllers range from £30-£35 for a wired jobby, the Razer Onza starts at £40 for the standard edition, the tournament is £10 more expensive at £50 (these are prices from OCUK), the difference between the two is the Tournament Edition features adjustable resistance on the analog sticks, backlighting and a non-slip rubberized surface texture.

The main features of the Onza are:

- Additional Multi-Function Buttons (RB/LB)
- Adjustable resistance for analogue sticks
- Buttons (A,X,Y,B) have much shorter distance to 'press in'

Additional features are backlit buttons (pointless, looks nice), rubber finish and D-Pad is a lot easier to press with four separate buttons rather than one big button.

I've had it two weeks now and I only play Black Ops and FIFA11 so that's the only games I can comment on it's performance.

Black Ops wise, I adjusted the resistance to minimum so like the PS3 controllers. I find the analogue sticks a lot comfier to use than that of the PS3 so I can use them with minimal resistance.

The thing I love about this pad is the Multi-Function buttons, these basically duplicate a button on your pad. I duplicated the Left and Right Triggers so now my shoot and aim are the top buttons, compared to the triggers there is now instant shooting/aiming available, it maybe very little difference but the time it takes to push a trigger down to a button is quite big IMO so this is very handy for me. (I don't have the reactions of the kids out there anymore :()

Comfort wise, it's a lot nicer to handle for long durations. The standard controller always left my middle finger sore on the inside as it rubbed on the controller just under the trigger. This has been eradicated with this controller.

The backlit buttons look a bit cheap but the rubber finish does make it feel very nice to hold and build quality seems top quality as you would expect from Razer.

This controller does take a while to get used to, no way you can just pick it up and be used to, takes about a week to get used to. FIFA it takes longer due to the A,X,T,B buttons being more 'click' than 'push' now. The triggers are nice to use too and they are much larger than the standard controller ones.

The wire isn't too annoying, my 360 headset is wired so I don't really notice it that much, it's extremely long, that's what annoys me. It's nicely braided though so doesn't get tangled.

I'd recommend buying this pad if your controller is on it's way out, I'm not sure if it's worth the £50 for just buying as an alternative, better controller than the standard MS one. I like the multi-function buttons, they have improved my game on COD.

Sorry for the grammar, punctuation, spelling etc, I'm typing this after being out all night so knackered. I thought I'd share my opinion though. Any questions, please ask, I've probably missed stuff off :D

Here are some piccys taken with my iPhone (yes I said it, and they are crap)

How you finding the programmable buttons Andy? I still occasionally throw flash bangs when i mean to run on blops and mw2.

I did this a couple of times I do admit, it's usually when I'm running round a corner and I see someone and I had the mapped buttons to knife so I quickly went to press and threw a nade

I changed the mapping like I said so I can't really do this anymore :D

I think it's just a case of getting used to it but I imagine they'll always be cases of pressing a button accidentily :(

Can you press down the left stick while moving it? On my friends you can't which makes it pretty bad for Call of Duty. Are they all like that or just a few?

Yeah, I never had an issue pressing it...maybe a broken one? I've heard there are a few dodgy ones out there
