Mini SD question - mystery 5mb usage even when card empty

Hi,

I have a Dane Elec 512mb mini SD card. I use it to store music on my Mini XDA s and do this by syncing it with media player on my desktop pc.

I noticed that even when i delete all the music off the card it still says on the device and in windows media player that there is still 5.37mb in use?

This is weird as the card 'appears' to be completely empty. Anyone else had this or know why?

When a card is formatted it takes up some space.

OK, but its never been formatted, got it new at xmas and synced it about 4-5 times and just noticed this. Thanks for your help anyway.

The card must be formatted to be used. You said you had music on the card before, so the card must have been automatically formatted for you by phone/pc. You wouldn't have been able to put music on a un-formatted card.

yep he's right, all storage devices that can be read by a pc have some of the space used for holding of the data tables so that it knows where things are on the card.
