I'm fed up with my computer, the case and all the hdd's make it so noisy I want to smash it up.

Currently have a Thermaltake VA3000BWA Tsunami Dream and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache. The former is going to be smashed/sold, the latter will replace my existing backup ides.

I therefore need a new 500Gb ish HDD. I'd also like to get some new (4gb)/additional (2gb) ram... currenlty have GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit. Would like both to be best my motherboard (Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2) can handle.

Finally, possibly the most important things as it'll be in pieces, a new case. A window would be nice but if it has a door, it mustn't rattle... the Thermaltake does and it must die.

So, I want a new sata HDD (for boot), some more memory (unless there really is no point in 4gb) and a new case.

Cheers!

heres a few bits to keep you going

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black

Lian-Li PC-60/PC-7 Window Side Panel - Black

Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

there we go :) all for £224.32 P&P included.

you might want to double check that side pannel fits with the case be fore you buy but I think it dose. Also theres no PSU with that case so you could ether use the one that came with your old case or buy a new one...
As for memory I think 2GB is fine if your using XP. Although I here vista likes 4GB :D

You read my mind re: case. Although I'm quite taken by the Antec P182 now... humh...

The 4gb was re: vista :S

I thought seagates > samsungs? or am I a n00b?

edit - your lot also only comes to £164.41? :p

^ That's it so far.

I think that's the same ram kit I have at the moment so assume it'll work when doubled up.

The PC-7 PLUS is an extremely good case. I'd probably take it over the P182 considering the price difference. Like you, when I got it I was initially thinking of the P182. But following recommendations here ended up getting the PC-7.

Had a good look at the P182 in a store the other day. Didn't regret getting the PC-7 one bit - the build quality just seems a little better. *grin* I'm a big Lian-Li fan now. ;)

Edit: and ah, and I think XP can go up to 3Gb with an addition of the /3Gb switch to your boot.ini. I think it can go up to 4Gb in total, but the other 1Gb is used for other devices (video memory, etc?)

PC-7 or P-60....?

PC-7!

I think the front looks better than the double grill of the 60. Plus the 60 uses smaller fans..

PK!

PC-7 PLUS is what I ended up getting. And am extremely happy with. Great build quality, very quiet, very easy to work with.

Haven't looked at the PC-60 in person, though it does look good, especially if you need the extra 3.25" bays. But the PC-7 is so damn spacious inside, I'm sure you could easily get some additional mounts for more hds if you needed to. (And I probably will end up doing something like this)

Just thought you might be interested in an opinion from someone who was looking at a P182 and ended up not getting it. ;)

What'll happen in XP with 4gb? Will it still work as if there was only 2gb there?

If you've got a 32 bit OS then 4GB is not worth it as windows will only be able to address about 3GB, the rest will be wasted. Only get 4GB if you will upgrade to a 64 bit OS.

Hmmm.... I'll see which copy of Vista work give me then. Cheers. I thought 2-3Gb was an XP limit, not a 32bit limit.

Re: PC-7 vs. P60 vs. P182 debate, are they all quiet?
