Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has any experience with MiniChamps scale models? Looking at some of the new F1 models and they seem quite good. They seem quite reasonably priced but I'm assume they are obviously worlds away from the likes of Amalgam but, none the less, are MiniChamps worth investing in?

Cheers.

O?T:
I want to get into some "airfix" "Tamiya" etc models. What are the best ones to do these days. Not done any for years, just fancy doing some nice models in my spare time.

Also some info about brushes/paints etc which to use would be good as I am sure we have some model makers on here

I'm a modelmaker at Amalgam. I can certainly find out about Minichamps own models for you?

Whoa, must be very talented... I've only seen the Amalgam stuff once (A model shop in Meadow Hall, Sheffield) but they were very impressive... I'd love one but I'm afraid they are leagues away from me (Couldn't afford them!!).

I was looked at picking up this MiniChamps model:

I am no collector and infact have no scale models at this time... This would just be a one off piece - Like many others I followed the season closely and enjoyed it (With all of its highs and lows) and wouldn't mind having this a bit of a memento of the season.

I don't suppose anybody has had any experience with this (As it's only pre-order at the moment) but I thought I'd try and guage impression from peoples experiences with past MiniChamps models...

Thanks for the replies :)

Aye that would be impressive if minichamps had made that and got them into the uk in three days :)

I will find out what the previous years Minichamps mp4/22's are like and let you know.

Thanks for the replies.

Dublove, I'd really like it if you could do that... I'll be keeping an eye on this thread awaiting your reply :) Out of interest, how are you able to access this information? Are MiniChamps and Amalgam related in some way?

Magic, This thread was asking about some scale models... Pre built, painted, etc... Just for display. I think you'd attract a better audience (Related to your questions) in a seperate thread.

Cheers :)

Minichamps have been getting better and better over the years, the chrome McLarens are stunning for the money. They're not up to the same standard as the likes of CMC or Exoto but they're a third of the price.

I'm not sure about the Grand Prix Legends special though, you're basically paying £50 for the base.

That's the 1/43rd scale one, the 1/18th is far better.

Not related but the guy behind Minichamps is friendly with the boss. Plus some of the other guys are avid collectors of motorsport's cars so I'm sure I can get a good idea of the quality from them :)

Will let you know.

But minichamps don't do a huge amount of 1/18th F1s any more. Pretty much only McLaren and a the odd historic one. The money is in the 43rds.

Here's last years in 1/18th

Yeah and I think the 1/18th McLarens will go if McLaren themselves stop commissioning runs of them for their own web shop. It'll be a shame if that happens because I've got one of each of them (sometimes 4 per year!) back to 1988. Mind you it's easy to understand why 1/43rds are more popular, they take up far less space!!!

Just wondering if you'd managed to find any info out on this?

Cheers :)
