MiniDV to PC

Father-in-Law passed away recently and has about 30 tapes which Mother-in-Law would like be able to watch. The camcorder has a firewire connection. What's the easiest way to do this? Is it buy a PCIe card (400/800) or can it be done via cables?

It can be done via cables yeah, you'll just need a FireWire cable (to that port if you have it, or to USB if that's compatible). You'll then need some capture software, you could just get a 30 day trial of Premiere.

Bear in mind capturing Mini DV tapes is real-time so 30 hours of recording will take 30 hours to capture!
