Hi

I'm considering using a LCD20WGX2 with these PC specs at native 1680 x 1050 resolution:

GeForce 6600GT Nvidia card with a Athlon 3200, 1GB of RAM and a Abit NForce2 NF7-S.

Will I be okay with this setup (PC mostly used for videos and gaming like IL-2, Falcon: Allied Force, Elder Scrolls Oblivion) or do I need to consider upgrading the PC spec, especially the graphics card?

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Interestingly, I've no real problem running Oblivion on my set-up, fairly smooth in 1024 x 768. Just ran some IL-2 intro movies in 1680 x 1050 (just to see what the native res looks like) - a mite jerky but again not too bad on top settings - I've had it worse on lower resolutions for other reasons.

I know there are top AGP cards but that is just investing in old technology so a PCI card will mean a new PCI motherboard etc etc.

Decisions, decisions...

Well smooth for some people is 20 fps and for others it's 40 fps. My dad will happily play a game running 5 fps  Also of course Oblivion runs much better in indoor areas, and it depends whether you have stuff like bloom turned on, what draw distances you're using, what graphical settings etc...

Try putting the res up on whatever screen you have now if possible, should give you an idea.

One thing to think about, 1680*1050 is 2.24 times as many pixels as 1024*768.

Yes, you're right - a lot depends on expectations. I'll admit I only do some light FPS gaming and prefer to play sims and stratey games like Total War or playing movies and DVDs. I wouldn't really want to shell out on a new GFX card if it can be helped -that'd come later with a PC upgrade.
