Hi My nephew has a old socket 775 system with a core 2 duo E7XXX system (I cannt recall the exact model).

It's lowe powered system and they live in a tiny flat so want to reduce the size of the computer into a purpose build mATX cube case.

unfrotunately many of them do not have adequate cooling because everything is crammed into the case, some actually dont take the conventional atx power supply and prefer these small PSUs (1U) that you get in the HP microsever.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to fit a picpsu (max 160w) on this system.

Spec:
Asus p5qpl-am mobo
socket 775 cpu E7XXX (looking to upgrade to q6600 or more efficient q9400)
HD5750 gfx
1x ssd
1x optical drive
2 case fans, 1x corsair h60 cpu cooler.

Not sure about this one but I would want more than 160w personally, especially if you drop a Q6600 in it. Most M-atx cases will take a full size psu so why go down the pico psu route? A decent 250-300w psu will power this with no problems.

thanks, I suppose you're right, there are a few matx cases which are just a tad smaller than a tower by volume. But the really compact ones do not have space for a proper psu and require a 1u PSU, I thought for the sake of cooling it might be best to go pico. But to be honest probably not ideal for cpu & gpu designed for full tower.

Picopsu is best for itx designed equipment with itx designed cpus.
