Hey guys just wondered what would be the minimum spec for playing 1080p videos without any stuttering? This isn't necessarily a build I'm planning on, but more out of curiosity.

Is it mainly CPU related or would GPU/RAM come into play as well?

Cheers.

I have 1080p playback on a single core 146 [email protected], 2gb RAM and a 4670 Graphics card.

This is generally a .h264 codec with an MP4 or MKV container.

I havent yet played a bluray movie from disk.

I get zero stuttering, I use FFDshow with hardware acceleration from the GPU, with it disabled it cant play 720p without stuttering.

full 1080p with Optical Surround on a dual core atom n330 1.6ghz 27% cpu load

with Nvidia ION GPU at 38% load

4gig of ram too

big isnt always better ;)

I've got a 3800x2 combined with a Nvidia G210 graphics card that plays 1080P with no problems as it uses the graphics card for acceleration

CPU usage hovers at around 40% iirc

Without the G210, 1080P is unplayable

I've got some older 1080P MKVs (if that's what you are on about) that are about 16GB that aren't DXVA enabled, which are unplayable

With my Atom N270 @ 1.6Ghz 1gb ram and integrated intel gpu on my netbook, I can play 720p just fine. 1080p tho is not viewable. Even with the cpu @ 2ghz 1080p is still not viewable.
