Hey guys what is the minimum spec required to receive a 1080p and 3D stream and play it seamlessly? it will be a windows 7 Ultimate 64bit system. Just looking to stream content from my main pc.

Guess i just need to know what processor, ram and graphics card, if needed.
Im not fussed about Intel or AMD as long as it can get the job done, i dont care if its budget RAM and i would prefer the graphics card to be low profile if its needed.

Thanks in advance.

For the 1080p U can use a Intel Celeron g530 and buy summon like an NVidia 640 will sort the 3d out.

4gb ram minimum I would say.

My htpc currently runs a Intel g540, 4gb ram, ati 5450, Asus sonar dg and its amazing

I just watched a 1080p film though on my Acer iconia w500 tab through xbmc and it ran perfectly.

I never thought about using a Celeron, i was blinded by i3 etc etc, as ill only ever be using this for streaming media and playing blu rays i guess this cpu will be ideal for years to come??

Ok, just wanted to cover the options. Will you need a case?

Yeah i will need a case but i have a few in mind, a nice low profile htpc or something like that

That mobo is crap.

If your going to ever want to plug it into optical for surround sound ur going to need spdif out and U also need a gpu for 3d playback

U also need a gpu for 3d playback
The Sandybridge HD2000/3000 GPU supports 3D playback, it also supports DTS/HD pass through if you use a av reciever. There is just the niggle with the less than perfect frame rates.

This spec has spdif out and a card for 3d playback, no struggling on frame rates.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Lian Li PC-C37B Aluminium HTPC Chassis - Black £119.99
1 x Asus P8H61-MX Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - OEM ** £39.98

Sorry for the hijack, no need to start a new thread.

Would a core 2 duo (I will find out the exact chip if needs be) be powerful enough to run 1080p (no 3d) with a low profile gfx card?

yeh will be fine.

i bought a £14.99 5450 from OCUK and mine plays 1080 @ 46" perfectly fine and output through SPDIF to my surround sound.

So, unless i plug my surround system into my mobo, i can`t use surround sound, is that what you are saying. So my surround system, which is plugged into my TV, i can`t use because i can`t` plug it into this mobo.

depends if ur surround sound has HDMI into it to accept the surround sound.

new surroudn systems work like this

DVD / SKY / PC ---> HDMI ----> Surround sound amp ---> HDMI ---> TV

older systems before HDMi go like this

DVD / SKY / PC ----> Scart / HDMi ---> TV
DVD / SKY / PC ---->Optical cable ---->surround sound amp

depends how new your surround sound amp is

Love this spec, just 2 more quick things,

1. what psu?
2. is that gpu low profile?
