I was thinking about all the european restrictions and rules and regulations we have yet was surprised when I realised that is failing in the most obvious places.
Take the UK welfare system and what it provides, and compare to some of the more further eastern parts of the EU, from what I can tell there is a vast difference. So there is gain to be had from moving to the UK (and France/Germany etc) from some countries to get better welfare.
So why has the EU not imposed a standard minimum that should apply to all, is it that they know a some countries cannot afford this and hence turn a blind eye in their bid for an EU superstate.
If we cannot beat them why don't we join them. I mean say we have a guy living in the UK from another EU member state why do we not supply exactly the same benefits as he would get in his home nation state rather than our welfare system. Obviously this would be overruled if you had spent say 10 years as a tax payer in the UK.
For non EU nationals I absolutely state there should be a common standard welfare they will be provided. So they should not gain from being in any particular state, and in fact they would be drawn to the cheaper cost of living states not as exists today the more expensive states. The welfare cost of any non EU nationals should be shared and paid by the EU not directly as a cost to the nation they decide to move into.
Would you even be allowed to say legislate for a UK passport holder to have better benefits than a non UK resident residing and claiming benefits in the UK, or would the EU say thats not allowed?
