Minimum upgrades needed for Helldivers 2 1440p

Hey so I ended up going with the steam deck for my traveling needs and since I'm not bothering with a laptop that frees up funds to upgrade the pc, really enjoying heldivers 2 but 20-30fps on low settings is killing me

Are the main components can I get away with just dropping in say a 16gb 4060ti like this one?

If I could spend around 500 that would be ideal I'm not sure with the move and cpu being so old if they all work happily with new stuff.

Really out of the loop with amd vs nvida and all thier proprietary techs the Asus monitor is gsync so guessing nvida is better for me? Just looking for the least hassle option when it comes to getting stuff to work too, I remember amd always used to have issues with drivers don't know if that's a thing now?

But I have no brand loyalty.

If I could get a stutter free 40-60fps that would be more than enough for me. Seems like a 4060ti would be a lot better than a 2070 and his cpu doesn't seem to be the bottle neck there?

Is there a better option than the 4060ti in the ~500 price range?

Great thanks, looking on ocuk and looking at some bench marks there's some B grade 7900 xt 20gb gor 600£ vs the gre for 509£

Looking at reviews there's about 25-30% better performance on the xt (why are there 3 versions of the 7900?) But at 600 quid i could get a 4070 super, which seems to perform worse untill Ray tracing is used where the 4070 super seems to get 30-60% more?

Is raytracing going to be the more future proof thing?

But then again I don't think etc helldivers or bg3/darktide use Ray tracing do is it all academic?

With almost max settings (the game seems to see it as high/custom), 1440p, Helldivers 2 ran at 60-100FPS on my 3070FE, there isn't a huge visual variation between around medium settings or so through to ultra though but overall I'd say for 1440p in the game and keeping things looking nice you don't really want to step back below a 3060ti or whatever the equivalent 4000 series is.

EDIT: I'd also say with a CPU that old you'll see very little gains beyond something like a 4060Ti maybe not even that - I was using a CPU of that era but 6 core / 12 thread with a decent overclock on it and not quite maxing out my 3070FE. Some modern games really choke now on less than 6 core / 12 thread CPUs and unfortunately I don't believe there is one for that socket.

Oh wow so multi threading finaly did catch on? I remember when I built the pc nearly every game still just seemed to use 1-2 cores max and everything else sat on 0 utilisation.

An RDNA based something will allow a lot more performance than anything Nvidia based in your system.

It’s a bit of hard choice with that system. On one hand you ideally want something with 16gb of vram for that resolution, but that looks like a 7800XT and even with AMD you’ll likely not see the full performance.

Crazy how that was a fine system to run that monitor back in the day (or maybe I just used to use 1080p on it and have forgotten.

^ is there much in the way difference between these? As thier rrp seems to be wildly different but the Nitro plus one with the middle range rrp seems to have higher numbers

Rest of the post was, I'm not too sure if my enthusiasm for gaming will stick so was hoping just to do the Card, otherwise would taking the basic build from phat momma hoe's thread (lol) be the best route to take

Not sure if my old thermalright 120 ultra extreme could be used with a new bracket as the amd cpus look huge these days, and guessing the cable specs for the psu have moved on at that point too?

I have got a 1tb 980 Samsung m2 ssd that I upgraded my laptop with so I'd probbaly swap that back to its old 512gb one and use that.

What do you think get the 7900xt now (if it's compatible) see if in still enthusiastic in a few months if so do everything else?

The Nitro+ is a really nice card and at £600 is a decent price.

Good lord he's a chonky boy!

Even the fan should is die cast metal.

Just got it set up, 50-60 fps on hd2 for everything ultra and native res, 90-110 fps for "high" preset.

30fps pretty solid using the ultra supersampling to render above 1440p good god that's crisp doing one set of super sampling gives 35-40ish fps stable and looks still amazing. Will have to test that feature out in the older games i play.


Hopwfuly this dx12 workgraphs update will help take the load of the old cpu too if it isn't already out.

All in all the cheap fun game I got for 20 quid on sale has cost me £620 10/10 would recommend.
