Hi guys,

So this morning I managed to slightly bump in to a ladys ford Ka, the damage is very minor, a slight graze/scratch on the tyre arch.

My question is, what should I do? Do I phone her and say I will pay for the damage? or do I wait and see if she calls her insurance?

The outcomes are potentially not having to pay for any damage at all, going through an insurance claim (My excess is £550) or getting her to get a quote and me just paying for it.

Any advice?

You don't pay your excess for third party damage.

Had an argument with six or so colleagues once with this exact point, they were calling me an idiot for saying that an individual wouldn't pay their excess for third party damage. This was after one of those colleagues reversed into my car and he was worrying about his excess charge.

But your renewal price should go up a bit, and you will lose some NCB unless it's protected. So it will cost you.

If he wanted to get the damage repaired to his car however, he would have had to pay his excess :)
