Anyone else have the problem where folders don’t remember their settings? I like to have my downloads folder set sort by date modified but Vista keep forgetting. This means I have to right click, add sort date modified then press sort by date modified which takes far to long due to the scroll lists involved.

How do you get date modified to always appear with the sort list? Surly you shouldn’t have to add it everything you want to use it.

How do you get a folder to remember its been set to sort by date modified?

Hi Pottsey, I've had this happen a few times with my Vista install, which I've been running since Jan.

If you delete the two keys in the following quote, it'll reset all your folder views to default, so you can set them up again, and it'll remember.

It does get annoying if you don't do this, as for example, with my setup, my downloads folder would change to the same layout as "Computer" and if it change it to details etc, it will also change the way Computer looks, and various other folders.

Anyway, I've needed to use this about 3 times so far, so no danger, and it works well... usually for at least a few months. If it starts forgetting again, you can delete the two keys, and start again from scratch.

HTH.

Anyway, by deleting these two keys, you will start with a clean slate, and
all remembered folder settings in Windows Explorer for view state, window
position, sort order, column information, folder type, toolbar toggles, and
search result views will be lost, and reset to the correct defaults, just so
you know what to expect; but any corruption, which indeed does happen, will
also be
deleted. The keys in Vista are:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
(right-click on BagMRU and choose delete)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
(right-click on Bags and choose delete)

Log off and log back on to Windows to re-create the keys (done
automatically), and start anew.
