When I am surfing sometimes it freezes (Courser still moves, but all is frozen in Gnome)
& sometimes it just goes black. I have Gnome 2.32.1, no driver installed & no special settings. My screen use to start flashing purple, not fast though. It was a purple tint, that doesn't really happen any more though. Besides that, all is fine.

Not sure what the problem is but since you say surfing (and probably video watching) or possibly composite effects. Ultimately it will be best to have drivers installed.

Which browser are you using? Modern day browsers have hardware acceleration capabilities (relies on GPU), either disable them or install the drivers.

e.g. in Chrome, settings, advanced settings, "Use hardware acceleration when available" [uncheck] and restart chrome.
