Mint 11: Hpw did this happen???

Error creating mount point: Read only file system, this is new & I didn't change a setting, it just happened. I have 3 partitions Linux/Windows/Download, just linux is fine. Recovery mode fixed it, not sure why it did it, The FS had errors, but how did that make it read only?

If you cat your /etc/fstab you'll see that your filesystems are configured to re-mount as read only on errors; "errors=remount-ro".

There can be many causes, drive could be failing check your SMART with smartctl --all /dev/sda, it could be a software bug in the filesystem (doubt it), it could even be a drive miscompare (I could believe it).
