Hi, I had ad conditional offer to do dentistry at bristol but missed out on the grades, I got ABB, they wanted AAB.
I needed A in chemistry and biology and a B in D+T
I got A in D+T and B in chemistry and biology

In biology I got: A A A A D B in my modules, the D looks out of place so might have been marked by some pirate as it has been known to happen. I got a higher grade on the harder synoptic paper. so I'm getting a remark and then resitting if it doesn't change.

Chemistry was a different story, The A2 part of the course never really clicked and I got C B A A D D in my modules.
Edexcel are only offering the last 3 units for resit in January, so to get an A overall I would need to get about 90% in each of the two modules I got a D in. I have taken advice on this and it is near impossible so I'm going to redo a whole A level in a year at my 6th form.
The 6th form have now changed exam boards and are taking a welsh board. I've never heard of these, does anyone know of the name of this board? + and advice?

Thanks

no clearing places for dentistry, the ones in the paper were for related courses. I don't want to do anything else so I may aswell take this year to sort it out rather than going in post grad with another load of debt.
All dental schools require the same grades, I have rung bristol and they will look at me with AAA next year.
WJEC then? cheers

My brother needed AAB to do destistry at Bristol (A in Bio and Chem, B in Maths).

He got ABB and they let him in - with the A in maths.

Phone and hassle until they give you a restraining order!

More people than ever are going to uni this year. Seems a little harsh not getting in with those grades but as far as uni's go they are looking for the best students.

sorry to hear about that mate. I would see if you can get the grade bumped up due top bad marking, or wait a year.

Firsly, have you actually been rejected by Bristol yet? If not, don't panic, contact the university and put your case. Much of the time people who miss by a single grade can still get a place. Universities set their offers to fill, but not overfill, their places so they always ask for higher grades than they expect everyone to get. This means a good portion of the "near misses" will be accepted.

If not, take a year out. Try and get some work related to the area, and apply again next year, or seek a different path. You've got good grades, the world is your oyster.

It is quite likely that even if the remark comes back marked up, that you will be told to take a year out.

When 10% of the students doing A's are now achieving straight A's the universities have the advantage of telling others to sit and wait.

Sounds pretty unlucky!

Makes me wonder how I ever got in to uni with my grades! was very lucky i think!
I think I got about 40-50% of the required UCAS points

Another option is to go to Bristol on a related course. Once you get in there ask to change courses? Easier when you have your foot in the door.

I didn't get the grades needed to get on my UEA course back in the day. A Simple phone call to UEA and they let me in!

Have you spoken to Bristol?

Don't be to down heartened, you have achieved fantastic A-level results anyway! Go through clearing, don't wait another year! Dentistry is 5 years!! you don't need a 6th :)

Good luck anyway dude, never lose sight of the fact that denistry will earn you bucket loads.
