Was driving home and noticed steam coming from the bonnet with the rain. So when I got in I checked underneath and as far as I know (and I don't know much about cars) I might be missing a cap, right? As can also be seen it appears to be splashing oil(?) onto the bonnet which I guess is the cause of the steam? Oh, car is a Citroen c2.

Is this a problem? Do Halfords sell replacements, or best to buy online? What's it called? Engine Cap? ;p

How has that gone missing!?

No idea, had the car about 3months from citroen dealer and had it in the garage last week under a warranty repair to the drive shaft. Guess they did oil checks etc and didn't put it back on?

I'll go over there now, could any damage have been caused?

Just got off the phone, guy who worked on the car is on lunch so service manager can't ask if the oil cap was removed/checked.

The week before I had a 'visual health check' to diagnose the original vault, and then again on the invoice of the work done it says another visual health check was carried out.

The form for under the bonnet is here, would it have been likely this cap would have been taken off for the oil condition check?

Originally I took it in on the 25th Sept after driving it I heard a loud clattering/crashing sound around the underside of the car or something. Thought something major had fallen off! That was diagnosed as a clip on the drive shaft coming off, but come to think of it it could have been the cap coming off and hitting fans etc. However I'd have hoped after 2 visual checks they would have noticed it was missing....

Idk, I'll see what they have to say.

They really need to start teaching Learners about there cars if a driver doesn't recognise his own Oil filler cap. :p

It's been 5 years since I passed and only driven on and off for one of them, I'll refresh myself! This sort of proves I need to, I knew there was normally a cap there, but I wouldn't have known a name for it!

They're taking forever to get back to me.

Just had a call back, apparently they didn't go under the bonnet when it was in last week so wouldn't have been taken off. They said they'd replace it but he needs to go speak to his manager regarding F.O.C.

I then need to discuss why it went missing considering i've not toyed with it.

Ok well I'm going over tomorrow and they're replacing the cap for free.

I'll discuss the issues with why it went missing whilst over there.

They gave me the new cap, they checked oil levels and confirmed with me they were fine (I went and checked yesterday). It's all documented and have warranty still till August 2013, just have to try and make sure they don't try and fob me off with wear and tear!

Should I have got them to change the oil there and then or wha? As far as I know I'm covered should any issues crop up from their negligence through the warranty.

I asked if there would have been any damage and was told some dust may have got in there as it's fairly covered by the bonnet and that won't cause any issues as it will get filtered out? If that's a load of crap I'll give them a call in the morning. I guess I just left not pushing for the oil change originally because I have the cushion of the warranty, but thinking about it they'll try and worm out of that in the future :(
