I just replaced my old Technics Hi-Fi - which was hooked up with 6 analogue discreet inputs - with a Logitech Z-5500 connected via SPDIF.

Music sounds great in stereo, and I've tried a couple of HD videos I have with 5.1 surround sound and they work fine to. However when I try games like L4D, Half Life: Episode 2, Dead Space, and COD:WAW they all default back to 2.0 sound.

In the Source engine games the speaker setting defaults to 2 Speakers and switching it to 5.1 makes no difference. In Dead Space I can set it to 5.1 but it still behaves like 2.0 with the front left and right speakers varying volumes for front/rear/centre. In COD:WAW the sound setting it picks up from Windows is also just 2.0.

I know that with the analogue there was an option to switch speaker configuration but this disappears when using the digital connection.

I've updated to the latest Realtek drivers and double checked all the settings but nothing shows up, am I missing something?

Help appreciated! :)
