I have an Acer Travelmate 530 laptop which has had a fresh reinstall this morning with Win XP and all the updates. For some reason the battery icon in the taskbar is not showing even when the ac power is not conncted to the laptop. I have enabled always show icon on the taskbar in power options but cant get it to show up. I have also tried to repair the icon cache with TuneUp utilities which was suggested on another forum.

Any ideas on how i can get this icon to appear?

Give Notebook Hardware Control a go: http://www.pbus-167.com

Its an excellent program and comes with its own battery/mains system tray icon.

:)

Still no luck mate. NHC reporting no system battery and running on AC power when the laptop is running on batteries. Handy little program though.

I've now tested with a second battery and the same problem remains.

Think i'm going to try a fresh install now.

Did you fix this problem, I have found this to be an issue with XP SP2 if you have the computer auto logon to a profile. If you use the welcome screen then the problem doesn't exist,

Its probably a driver problem. I had a Dell notebook that I reinstalled Windows on. None of the notebook function keys/notifications worked as there was a seperate drivers CD for them. But the drivers had to be installed in a particular sequence in order for them to work.
Of course, Dell nor the Drivers CD told me that so that was many an hour wasted on Dell support. Needless to say I've since got rid of it lol
