Missing Core in Task MAnager

Sorry guys, I am only offered 1 there is no 2
It seems that one of the cores has simply withered away and died. Could it be a dodgy hard drive? (clutching at straws here)

Know the feeling well :D

Unless you can try the chip in a n other comp and find it is ,in fact, o'k looks as though your going to have to assume that one core has failed :(:(

Hi, I don't believe this, I have just put in a brand new 4200x2 processor as I thought after trying everything, it would be a fault with the old one and despite recognising the new one in startup/BIOS it still only displays one in Task manager??? What on earth can this be? I have installed XP Pro twice, tried Vista Ultimate, updated the BIOS, bought new processor and still it won't utilise both cores.
If anyone can help I would be so grateful.

Has to be your motherboard, I can’t see no other possible fix until you try a new or different motherboards with the CPUs you have got.
