Missing cursor in several games with aero on

So i thought i'd borrow maximum crysis from a friend and install it on my windows 7 64bit PC and try to play through it.

Now whenever i load it up i can move through menu's with cursor keys but at no point do i see any mouse cursor although i can sometimes select a menu through blindly moving the mouse till i land on one. I noticied this happening in a few others games/demos i tried but then some games like Just Cause 2 don't have this problem.

I also noticed that turning off aero in windows fixes the problem but to be honest i'd rather keep aero on and not have to switch it off just to play a game.

So does anyone have a solution to this?
