kde tells me I'm missing /dev/dsp and refuses to play sound...
ALSA drivers loaded for my C-Media sound card...
XMMS plays sound without a problem once I pointed to the correct ALSA output device...

KDE does not seem to recognise ALSA and insists on wanting to use OSS...
is this a bug with KDE or what?

Thanks

found I'm using an older version of xfree and kde... will update soon as I get chance...

Also found ALSA OSS module... have installed but seems not to have effect....

Should work fine if you go into Control Center -> Sound & Multimedia -> Hardware - and select ALSA as the audio device.

/dev/dsp is provided by OSS, not ALSA... you should prefer ALSA if you can get it running, OSS is not in development any longer.
