Just giving the computer a bit of a spring clean to free up some space on the hard drive.

I've freed up around 20 odd gigabytes so far and when i tally up how many gigabytes each folder has taken missing around 50GB that i can't account for?

Up to 10GB of that would be the OS itself but where has the rest gone!?

I've cleaned up my caches and other bits and pieces. Just strange.

Not too sure how find out about the hidden partitions but you could give DaisyDisk a try. It gives you a great representation of what is taking up space on your hard drive and makes spring clean exercises a lot easier. You can get the trial version from the developers site here http://daisydisk.en.softonic.com/mac and if you like it, you can buy it through the Mac App Store.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Just noticed that I posted the wrong link to the developers website. Here is the correct link: http://www.daisydiskapp.com/

That app is gorgeous!

Found a load of data that i could delete! Awesome!

Glad you found it useful! I've used it a couple of times to find out what is taking up so much space, just makes the task of checking the size a folder and all sub folders a lot easier and quicker :)
