Hey Guys,

Just put a 500gb hd in my laptop, installed everything and transferred my files over form my old computer.

The problem is that my laptop is saying I have used 200G of hard drive space already and I know for a fact I should have used just over half of that.

When I use Disk Inventory X it's telling me only 111gb is being used, so where has the other 90gb gone and any idea how i can get it back please???

Cheers

Ricky

Is it the way the systems count the space used, size on disk is larger than the actual size, because with a hard disk even if you don't use every bit of a block it still cannot share data with another file, i.e. if you use 10,000 blocks but half of them are half empty then in a ideal world you could fit it all into 7,500 blocks but because you are not able to condense the data it just consumes 2,500 blocks full of empty?

Make sense? This might not be it?

If that's all you're going to say about it, you may as well have closed the thread :p

;)

Lol, sorry.. Basically what happened was when I did the information migration between the two computers, it copied the home file from my old computer onto the new one, so it doubled all the files I had.. So I just needed to delete the old file and the problem was solved.
